G Spot Hair Design’s 2011 Hair Show

G Spot Hair Design's 2011 Hair Show was an enormous success! The Year of the Hair took place Saturday, May 14th at the Blue Moose Taphouse in Iowa City. With an estimated 200 guests in attendance, G Spot was able to raise a healthy sum to donate to Doctors Without Borders, this year's chosen beneficiary organization.

G Spot stylists worked with Tonya Kehoe of Glitter Mafia for a portion of the make-up art and Linsday Faber of Skimpily Clawd for some custom pieces of costuming. The combined efforts of the crew throughout the day spun their models into living works of art.

Over 30 models strutted the catwalk to display the avant-garde and ornamental hair creations of G Spot's talented stylists to a background video designed by Jason Hennesy and music provided by DJ Adam Luksetich. From a mohawk made from sheet music to a sculpture of light bulbs and glass marbles, feather-extensions to tie-dyed human hair, tin cans up-cycled into an up-do, geisha-inspired styles made from yarn, paper birds, and metal utensils, and so many more- this year's show took transformation and adornment to the extreme. DJ Lazy Encounters got everyone dancing after the raffle for the post-show party. Models in full costume danced and celebrated with guests in a striking mélange of ordinary and extraordinary.

Images of the show have begun to appear on G Spot's Facebook site, as well as in the Little Village Magazine accompanied by an article by Adrianne Behning. Dewey Street Photo Company focused on the day of preparation and has been posting images of each model's evolution on Facebook. Ovation Photography shot the event and provided a photo booth for guests to document the evening. Prints and a book will soon be available from Ovation.

Raffle prizes from area businesses and silent auction items from local artists and businesses drew considerable donations for the cause. If you have not yet claimed your silent auction prize, please get in touch with the salon to do so by Saturday, May 21st at 319-338-1664. Unclaimed prizes will default to the next highest bidder.
