G Spot is proud to be an active participant with Locks Of Love. March through December you can get your hair cut for FREE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when you donate. Our annual Locks Of Love Hair Drive is held each year on Valentine’s Day. It is a great way to help those in need and get an amazing haircut in the process.

Locks Of Love is a non- profit organization devoted to providing financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medial hair loss from any diagnosis. Most children helped by Locks Of Love have lost their hair due to a condition called Alopecia Aereata, which has no known cause or cure. They also assist may children suffering from other medical conditions, including hair loss due to chemotherapy. Locks Of Love uses the highest quality prosthetic hairpieces-the children benefiting from Locks Of Love can swim, play sports, and do all the activities that they would do as kids without the fear that someone will know that they are sick or wearing prosthetic hair.
This helps restore their sense of self, their confidence, and their sense of normalcy. They receive their custom made, custom fitted hairpiece free of charge or on a sliding scale, depending on financial need. It is estimated that 80% of donations come from other children wanting to help their peers. |

Guidelines For Donating to Locks Of Love: -Your must be 10 inches or longer to donate to Locks Of Love. Keep in mind that that after you cut your ponytail, there will be adjustments to be made your style because your hair will be uneven. Allow at least another 1 ½ inches to be cut to allow for this. -Your hair can be chemically treated (color, perm, or relaxers), but cannot be bleached or damaged. Hair must be healthy with no split ends to donate. We may need to trim the ends of your hair before we take the actual donation depending on what condition your hair is in. -Your must be clean and dry to donate it. However, our free haircut does include a shampoo, cut and style out. -We welcome people with all hair types to donate their hair, including kinky or curly hair. The hair just needs to be the minimum 10 inches when stretched out. -Hair with lots of layers is usable if the overall length is at least 10 inches -Haircuts are complimentary with Junior Stylists only. Locks Of Love haircuts are available with other stylist at their regular prices. Want to donate but can’t make it in on a Tuesday or Wednesday? Come in during a different day-we will still cut your hair at our usual prices. - Hair that is not usable for will be sold by LOL to help offset the cost of producing the hairpieces. Because of the high quality of the prosthetic, they can cost between $3500-6000, so your help is greatly needed.

Jugglers. Contortionists. Live body piercing. It is all in a day's work for a G Spot Hair Show. We held our ninth annual hair show extravaganza at the Picador on October 13. Named Circo De La Noche' (Circus Of The Night), we took our inspiration from the circus, sideshow carnivals, Mardi Gras, and voodoo culture. As part of our ongoing efforts to contribute to positively to our community and the world around us, we donated all our proceeds from this year's event (850 dollars) to Hairdressers Unlocking Hope. Founded by hairdressing legend Vidal Sassoon, this organization works in partnership with habitat for Humanity to rebuild homes for Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans. With Jack-Of-All-Trades Tony Currin as our ringmaster, live corset body piercing by Rev. Matt Cooper, and the drum stylings of Adrienne Woodard, our show was a smashing success and was packed wall to wall with people wanting to see what we had come up with this year. One of the many highlights of this year was the daring contortions of Mr. Josh Rahiem. Clad in a pair of skintight shorts and convered in green body paint, he wowed the crowd by putting his body into as many positions as he could, including standing on his hands with his legs in the air and putting his legs behind his head. Rachel Thompson, who was a part of the carnie act and performed with her devil sticks, said "I always love being part of the G spot Shows and seeing what kind of crazy creative things they end up doing with my hair. I wish I could have them come to my house every morning and do my do'!" Rachel and many of the models and G Spot fans stuck around afterwards for the late night after party, featuring the talent of Agent Rose, Lady Espina, and DJ Miche' All in all, it was an amazing night and we can't wait for next year! Some Like It HotG-Spot Hair Design’s 10th Anniversary Hair Show Extravaganza! Friday April 9th @ 7pm G-Spot Hair Design is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a one of a kind hair show! It’s uniquely talented stylists will be showcasing hairstyles and fashions worn by the loveliest leading ladies and the most dapper gentlemen of the silver screen from the 30s-60s! Iowa City’s own School of Flyentology will be your emcees for the evening while also providing their signature tunes along with The Meara Oberdieck Band. There will be incredible raffle prizes donated by your favorite local businesses including Nemesis, Artifacts, RSVP, New Pioneer Coop, White Rabbit, Banditos, and That's Rentertainment! Grand prize is a full makeover from the G Spot Stylist of your choice! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development. If you have not had the chance to attend a G-Spot hair show before, mark your calendar for 7pm on April 9th because this one is not to be missed!
